Welcome to the Bendigo IT Education History site!
2014 marks 50 years of continuous offerings of Information Technology (IT) courses in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia.
These pages provide a pictorial history of Bendigo’s post secondary courses in IT which commenced in 1964 with a Diploma of Information Processing at the Bendigo Technical College. At the time it was only the third institution in the State of Victoria to do so. In the following fifty years that course multiplied to become several undergraduate and postgraduate programs incorporating the advances in technology, the growth in the IT disciplines and reflecting the industry demand. Industry has played its part also by offering Industry Based Learning (IBL) placement scholarships since 1995 and more recently, cadetships since 2012.
Today the Bendigo TAFE offer certificates and a diploma in IT Computer Networking, while the Bendigo campus of La Trobe University offers a generalist degree in IT, along with double degrees in business and IT, and a Professional IT degree that incorporates IBL placement scholarships.
